● It has chosen its headquarters in the metropolitan municipality of Viladecans to launch the U.labs division

● 30% of sales in pharmacies are made thanks to products without prescription

Unilever, the Anglo-Dutch multinational group of mass market, with brands such as Skip, Rexona, Dove, Hellmann’s, Frigo or Starlux, has chosen its headquarters in the metropolitan municipality of Viladecans, in Baix Llobregat, to launch U.labs , an independent division of the company to direct its entry into the pharmacy channel for the first time in its history.

This new Unilever unit has been created with the aim of launching the company’s activity in the category of consumer health, non-prescription products with high added value that are sold in pharmacies. U.labs will now start operating in pharmacies with two brands of toothpaste, and plans to increase the number of brands in the new division through new purchases to increase its presence in the pharmaceutical channel.

To understand Unilever’s new marketing commitment, it is worth highlighting the high market share of consumer health products. According to the company itself, 30% of pharmacy sales are made thanks to non-prescription products and, among these, those of personal care and hygiene occupy the first positions, with very large growth, and more in the latter months, due to the effect of Covid-19.

Unilever is one of the world’s leading consumer companies, with more than 400 brands that it sells in nearly 200 countries. An estimated 2.5 billion people consume its products every day, and it owns thirteen of the 50 leading brands in the world.

The Unilever group had a turnover of more than 52,000 million euros worldwide last year, of which almost 540 were obtained from the sales of its subsidiary  in Spain,, located in Viladecans, which will now be the pioneer of the new sales segment of the company on a global scale.
