The Port of Barcelona has recently given Tramer, a subsidiary of the Israeli ICL group, the green light to build and manage a new private terminal for salt and potash. Construction of the new terminal will require an investment of 57 million euros from ICL, plus a further 12 million from the Port of Barcelona to reinforce the wharf and deepen the draught.

This new facility will be able to handle 4 million tons of product, occupy 7 hectares and have a draught of 14 meters. All of this will allow it to load ships up to 60,000 tons. Moreover, it will also feature an international-gauge rail terminal.

In this sense, it must be noted that the Port of Barcelona strategic growth plan aims to make it the benchmark European port in the Mediterranean, expanding its area of influence over the coming five years to a radius of 1,200 kilometers and hitting 70 million tons of cargo and 3 million containers by 2020.
