Sant Adrià, in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, will host the first global submarine cable landing port, the gateway to Asia, Africa and the Mediterranean.

Work has already begun on the first international submarine cable landing station in Catalonia, an infrastructure that will come into operation in 2022, and which will allow the arrival of fiber optic cables without any restrictions. The installation will be the gateway to the European continent and the connection of cables from Asia, Africa, and the Mediterranean, which can be connected more quickly with the United States. Sources from the Catalan Government predict that in four years the station can help grow the Catalan economy by between 2% and 4%, and that for Catalonia it is strategic to have its own international port for submarine cables fiber optics.
