Catalonia is, of all Europe, the region that has obtained from the European Commission the highest fundraising devoted to innovation projects for small and medium-sized enterprises. In particular, according to ACCIÓ, 148 Catalan SMEs have obtained €61.9m of non-refundable funding for research, development and innovation projects. In this manner, Catalonia establishes itself on top of regions such as south-east Ireland (€50.2m), Madrid (€48.3m), Lombardy (€45.8m) and l’Ille de France (€35.5m), with a total fundraising similar to that of countries such as the Netherlands (€65.6m) or Finland (€65.3m), and above other countries such as Ireland (€59.1m) or Austria (€24.5m).
