The pharmaceutical multinational  Bayer has chosen the Sant Joan Despí Center of Excellence, in the Barcelona metropolitan area, to locate there its supply chain and logistics management service. The project involves hiring 100 employees in 2020, after taking on new skills for its global service.

The Barcelona center will be responsible for coordinating supply chain management activities for the international organization and the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. With a staff of around 600 people today, the new recruited professionals will be highly specialized, from data engineers to project managers.

This center of excellence, located in the metropolitan municipality of Sant Joan Despí, opened its doors more than 20 years ago to provide shared services to the global organization. From now on, it will also include supply chain management and logistics activities. His experience in digitization and process optimization will be useful to harmonize, automatize and simplify them.

Sources from the German company have highlighted that the Sant Joan Despí facilities are a benchmark for Bayer worldwide, and that the location in Barcelona, the large number of universities and access to specialized and diverse talent make it an ideal enclave for the growth of its hub of excellence. This allows them to continue contributing from Barcelona to the whole world in the transformation and digitization of Bayer, and to respond to the needs of the population in the fields of health and food.

Finally, it should be noted that Bayer has set out to reduce its environmental impact and be carbon neutral by 2030 and, in this sense, Barcelona has joined the measure of exclusively using renewable energy from January 2021.
